[edit] Summary

This is a photograph taken by Bart Hawkins of the Van Doos unloading from a plane in Yellowknife, NT, Canada, for a military exercise during the Cold War called Operation Bulldog III. He has given me express permission to use this image in relation to my research on Operation Bulldog. It is publicly available both from the NWT Archives (accession data: Hawkins/NWT Archives/N-1992-254-0037), as well as from their website.

I believe this image to be a fair use image because: 1)There is no "free" image that is easily available; this is a historical image, so no "free" image can be acquired, so I feel the use of a "non-free" image is justified in this case. 2)This image is not used in a manner that replaces the market roel of the original image; in fact, the original image has no "market role" as such, as it is a publicly avaiable image (under the control of the copyright holder and the NWT Archives), and is not used to generate a profit. 3) The image is at a sufficiently low resolution that it can't be suitably used in print articles (a suitable resolution image can be obatined for a reprint fee from the NWT Archives if needed). 4) The image has been previously published in numerous works, one being UP Here Magazine. 5) This image meets Wikipedia quality standards. 6) The image meets policy requirements. 7) The image is used in article Operation Bulldog III. 8) The image directly identifies the subject of a portion of the article, that being the "rival" team in the military exercise - the Van Doos. 9) This image is only being used in the article namespace, in the one article it has been designated for. 10)The image has been attributed to the copyright holder/source of the material, this being Hawkins/NWT Archives/N-1992-254-0037 (copyright holder is Bart Hawkins); I also have express written permission as to my authority to use this iamage. This image 'cannot' be replaced with another that falls under a free-document licence. I feel this is a fair justification; however, if there are any disputes, please register them on my talk page.
