Talk:Online, distance and blended learning courses in Ireland.
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I propose that it is an appropriate use of Wikipedia to create and maintain a page on online, distance and belended learning courses in Ireland as it is a public service to have such a page, it is by definition public information, and Wikipedia is probably one of the best ways of keeping the information up-to-date. If you agree, please respond to this message.

I have removed the following sentence from the article: "Suppliers of online, distance and blended learning courses in Ireland are free to use this page to post limited information and links on their courses." Irrespective of the outcome of the debate, the proposed use is against policy. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a glorified form of the yellow pages. It is irrelevant whether the information is public (which it is not "by definition"). The author – or, in fact, any user who cares about the subject – might try to make this into a proper encyclopedic article. Assuming that the individual suppliers are notable (see Wikipedia:Notability), one solution could be to make a brief article on each and combine them in a list, comparable to List of universities in the Republic of Ireland. The information need not be as dry as there; it could be annotated, as in List of universities in Russia; in fact, I should encourage that. Anyone (including suppliers) can then edit this information within the bounds of Wikipedia's policies. I hope this is helpful. LambiamTalk I am happy to accept the removal of this page if editors think it is inapropriate. However, I would appreciate a little time to find an alternative location and possibly to place a link to that location after the entry is removed. --Brian 23:32, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
