Online football managers are very popular among football (soccer) lovers. The basic concept of the online version of the game is not much different to the console concept, see football manager. The key differences between a browser based football manager and the console version is that the afore mentioned is usually free. Another big major difference is that up to recently, in the console (offline) version you could only play against the computer. Online football managers have had the ability to offer players to face each other since the conception of the idea. As always, multiplayer games are more fun than single player games.

You may also buy, sell and trade players. Once your team is set, you are able to play games that follow the real life rules of football (soccer). As a manager you are usually able to set your team tactics, substitutions and more. All these minor details vary by game.

There are many new browser based Java games that let you do the same thing the classic games, like Hattrick, let you do with a big difference. You are able to monitor the game live and make changes as the game goes. Sadly due to the high development costs of such new online manager games these games are rarely free and hence they have less players.
