The player, as Keiichi Maebara, is assimilated into the simple rural life of Hinamizawa, the fun and exciting after school club activities, all the while mingling with four new female friends he meets. However, things take an irreversible turn after the annual Watanagashi Festival when Keiichi's friends around him begin acting strange.
