The correct title of this article is oneseat.eu. The initial letter is shown capitalized due to technical restrictions.

oneseat.eu is an online petition to have the European Parliament based solely in Brussels. The petition was started by the Swedish Liberal MEP Cecilia Malmström in April 2006 and reached its target of one million signatures on 18 September 2006.

One million signatures are required, according to Article 47 on participatory democracy of the proposed Treaty establishing a Constitution for Europe [1], which is supported by the European Commission, in order for an initiative to be debated within the EU institutions.

The petition was set up in response to what is seen as a waste of 200 million euros every year, which is spent on moving the Parliament from Brussels to Strasbourg for four days each month. Many MEPs are themselves opposed to moving each month and have put their names to the petition, as has the Swedish Commissioner Margot Wallström.
