In order to save a little girl's life, Prue and Phoebe must revert to a time of innocence when they believed in mystical worlds filled with fairies and trolls. Meanwhile, devastated over everything that happened with Leo, Piper stubbornly goes on strike from The Powers That Be.

- This episode reveals that Piper is a Gemini and Phoebe is a Scorpio.
- The episode title is a reference to the commonly used in fairy tales phrase "Once upon a time, in a land far far away...".
- Actress Scout Taylor-Compton, who plays the fairie Thistle, later reprises her role in several episodes.
- When Phoebe levitates in the forest, in the shot where she says "Prue, a little help here!" you can see that her pants are all bunched up from the harness they used.
