- For the stone at Delphi, see Omphalos.
Omphalos, which originally means 'navel' is a stone in Greek myth. Cronus the leader of the Titans ate all of his children. Demeter, Hera, Hades, Hestia, and Poseidon were all eaten. Finally, when a sixth child, Zeus, was about to be born, Rhea, Cronus' wife, sought Gaia to devise a plan to save Zeus. She gave birth to him in Crete and gave Cronus a stone wrapped in cloth, the Omphalos stone, which he immediately devoured. This was how Zeus was saved and how he eventually overthrew the Titans.
