Re: Super Bowl XL edit
You reverted a change I made, stating neutrality, and accused me of vandalism. Yet the change I made deleted an unreferenced, biased sentence and added a factual statement describing an actual event. You, sir, are the vandal. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 67.170.7.202 (talk • contribs) 06:02, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

- All I know to say right now is that you can't remove speedy deletion tags from things. If an admin comes by and decides it should not be speedily deleted, the tag will be removed for you. If you would like to contest the tag, use the {{holdon}} tag as prescribed in the tag's banner. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 07:03, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

- Hi! I'm Omicronpersei8, not "you". Your edits (if memory serves) added "imaginary being" and "supernatural being" to the article, the first of which is not NPOV, and the second of which is both unnecessary and a probable misnomer. I hope this is an adequate enough explanation -- let me know if you have any more questions, and WP:NPOV, by the way, is a good page to read if you're just starting out at Wikipedia. Thanks! -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 07:58, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

Dear Omicron
Thanks for injecting a humorous quasi-bot revert into the disturbed Wikigaming over on the Wikiality article. However, given that some disturbing user keeps reverting, editing has become more difficult, especially after running into an edit conflicts, like when you joined the disturbing editor's Wikigames.
Not sure how you can possibly make so many edits in so short of a time frame, but i guess i happen to know all too well the consequences of such situations: when you are dealing with mentally short circuited shit disturbers all the time, your counterattacks will tend to mirror the disturbances of their preemptive attacks.
Respectfully yours, Ombudsman 21:04, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

Barnstar Defender of Kevin Federline
The individual (Federline's wife) was indeed bloated, which was understandable given the circumstances. If you felt the usage was pejorative (it wasn't), you could have just as easily edited the passage to make it more readable. Leaving pregnant in the line twice was redundant, stylistically clumsy, and obviously less descriptive. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.239.36.244 (talk • contribs) 12:54, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
- I'm not sure what this message's subject is supposed to imply, but "bloated" is neither NPOV nor stylistically attractive. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 12:55, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
-
- Bloated is NPOV, but that's a matter of opinion. You may wish to read Strunk & White if you think the following sentence is stylistically attractive: "After being introduced by his pregnant wife (who was eight-months pregnant at the time) Federline performed his first "official" single titled "Lose Control" as the final act of the 2006 Teen Choice Awards on August 20th." —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.239.36.244 (talk • contribs) 13:14, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
- I didn't write that sentence, and I'm only watching recent changes for nonsensical, libellous, and non-neutral edits, not serving as a grammar cop. I'm not going to rewrite every bad sentence I see. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 13:19, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
- In other words, you edit without regard to grammar, as incorporating proper grammar requires effort. Some readers may find this ironic, in that we're discussing a Kevin Federline article. Could you please cite where the word "bloated" violates the Wikipedia NPOV? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.239.36.244 (talk • contribs) 14:43, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

- Sorry, but I'm going to need to be pointed to the article name and/or edit in question. I see no Millennia Foundation or The Millennia Foundation, so I don't know what this is in reference to. Wild guess: it was either an unencyclopedic/advertisement-like addition or a copyright violation from a website. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 01:22, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
5 Sep 06: Odd, today the article is completely missing. Gone. No trace. The Millennia Foundation is a non-profit benevolent organization focused on social justice, resources sustainabilty, and post-foundational education. The short entry has been on Wikipedia since June 06. Are small NPO's not considered encyclopedic? Shouldn't NPO's be included? Who removed it? And why? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 66.82.9.91 (talk • contribs) 13:41, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, I just found the relevant deletion log: [2]. Sorry, but it looks like it fell under criterion A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion and was deleted.
I honestly don't remember editing the page, but my guess is that the addition I reverted may have been too ad-like or may have looked like a copyright violation (i.e. a copy-and-paste job from another website). The page was deleted because at least one administrator agreed with the person who tagged it for deletion in that it did not assert notability and thus appeared to be a "vanity" entry. If you disagree with this assessment, you are welcome to either recreate the article and add statements that strongly and clearly state the subject's reason for being in an encyclopedia, or you may make inquiries at the deletion review project page in order to establish why it was deleted and whether this decision was a just one.
Please let me know if you have any more questions. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 14:14, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

Alex Raf's page is entirely unnotable comedy, and should be removed as it is plainly him and several friends stroking his ego. However, that aside, the photo really is a step too far. Actually notable people have no photos, there is no reason why the equivalent of "the girl who was a stunt double for Shirly Temple on August 15th" should have one. Delete, or alternatively make the farce complete and expand it with multiple photographs. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 220.236.244.105 (talk • contribs) 16:51, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

Faulty sprotect tag?
On the Rockhurst High School article, Omicronpersei8 deleted the sprotect tag, (anti-vandalism.) I am still not fully aquainted with all the tags at wikipedia and am not sure why my use of sprotect was faulty. If you could explain it on my usertalk page (Rockhurst Singer) I would sincerely appreciate it.

P.S. I couldn't find any description of it on wikipedia, but like I said, I'm sort of a newbie, so I didn't really know where to look —The preceding comment was added by Rockhurst singer (talk • contribs) 15:49, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

Woman article
Why are you disrespecting my beliefs and why are you allowed to revert me, but I get into trouble if I revert you? Wikipedia must not publish offensive material. It will cause outrage among any Muslim and many other religious people who see offensive pictures. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 195.93.21.134 (talk • contribs) 16:06, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
- Formality aside, I really don't think Muslims consider a generic informative photo of a nude woman as "offensive". Either way, I've addressed this on your talk page. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 16:07, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
- Are you a Muslim? Do you know anything about Islam? I can strongly assure you that these pictures are deeply offensive. A woman's body should only be seen by her husband. It does not matter what the context. Wikipedia is disrespecting our beliefs. You appear very ignorant of Islam from your comments above. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 195.93.21.134 (talk • contribs) 16:11, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

I'm not sure if you switched IPs or what, but:
Actually, you're only at two reverts. Still: Thank you for your attempts to improve Wikipedia. However, I would like to remind you that Wikipedia is not censored for minors, not even for profanity or pornography. You are welcome to remove clearly offensive material or inappropriate obscenities if they were added as vandalism, but please do not remove/censor profanities or remove/disclaim sexually explicit material or links that are relevant to the article. In the meantime, please be bold and continue contributing to Wikipedia. Thank you!
Also, we do have a policy that instructs that editing to push a point of view is known as disruption, just for your information. Thank you for making good faith edits, though.

- It isn't just "disagreeable" but grossly offensive to Muslims and probably many others. - Remember that Wikipedia is not only multifaith but also includes many secular people who feel extremely strongly that these relative beliefs are in no way important enough to justify censorship - which many of us find just as offensive as a religious person might find the nude human form. I am offended when people to describe the human body as "indecent", etc, yet I refraim from vandalizing pages about religious groups who advocate censorship of the human body. -Neural 17:06, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

They're all restatements or POV "touch-ups" of existing material. Adding your opinion to an encyclopedia article isn't good for the world, because it just causes people to either become more misinformed or in the worst case will make them give up on Wikipedia as a semi-accurate source. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 09:47, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

- I see no legally sustainable theory under which you can claim it to be "copyrighted, trademarked, trade-secret protected intellectual property," but even if it is, the proper way to have it removed as such is to prove that it is protected intellectual property. Do you have any proof that it is? Just a quick aside on your edit comment about the hidden comment I added re: Sharapova's height. You wrote: "The thought of a six-foot-two girl having a growth spurt of one inch amuses me." It was actually a six-foot-zero girl going to six-foot-three. There was a minor edit war going on between advocates of 6' 0" (which is listed many places), 6' 2" (which is from reports earlier this year), and 6' 3" (which is from reports at the US Open Final). My comment may have been a bit unclear, but at least it ended the war! :) Anyway, this is all truly trivial, but I just wanted to address your amusement. Keep up the good work! -- Xtifr 00:55, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
- Interesting. I have this weird little thing about memorizing celebrity heights (admittedly usually disregarding the credibility of the sources I get the numbers from), so that actually is of interest to me. Reverted change ?
Hello,
Can you please tell me why you reverted the change I made to the DJ disambiguation page ?
Thanks, --RohanDhruva 15:08, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
- Hi, I did that because I don't think an acronym for a school can be counted as a nickname, and since its popularity has not been established, it would seem that this could conceivably be done for every school with these initials, and that would lead to an inordinately long list. That's my rationale; I hope you can understand where I'm coming from. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 15:09, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

Steve Irwins death.
I want to tell Terri Irwin and the children, Bindi and Bob how sorry I am about his death. This has really hurt me deeply. He was "in my home" every chance I got to watch his show.
I will miss him so much.
I told my husband it should have been me instead, he had a passion for life that I have never found. I will regret his death always.
We are watching his show all day today. I am so sorry.

Cronbot
Guess I missed this when it first came up, I've had a python script which obtains the tor list directly and can list out which ones are unblocked, guess I could have saved your some work. (Doesn't do the check for warnings though). One thing to be aware of is that there are several tor nodes which are on dynamic addresses and change address on regularly. In fact I've been capturing the data since 15th August, at time of writing 309 nodes are active but my database which is refreshed every hour and works out the IP address/node availability over time has 10106 entries on it... (That's not to say that they've used 10106 distinct IPs). I've also got scripts to use the tor control interface to allow selection of a single tor out proxy and then retrieve data through it, it needs some work but could be used to demonstrate that the IPs are in fact correct --pgk 19:45, 17 September 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry, I didn't know there was anything that already did that here (and it would seem the OP project members I've talked with didn't either). I've actually gotten busy lately unexpectedly, so you have in fact saved me some work.
That script sounds a lot like what I've got, the main differences being that Cronbot in its final form can also report unblock requests (a tentative that isn't necessary but given that it there is a section for it on WP:OP I suppose it might as well), it will do periodic checks to see which nodes have been blocked indefinitely, and it uses the PGP verification to certify it's the bot posting through the IPs. When you say "selection of a single tor out proxy", are you talking about dynamic/"anonymous" ones without names on public lists, or do you have a way to filter through IPs too? -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 20:07, 17 September 2006 (UTC)- Talking about the named, you can't specify the outproxy by IP. Obtaining the list directly from tor gives you the IP for all the out bound nodes. --pgk 20:18, 17 September 2006 (UTC)
- Okay, that's what I thought. About the list, is this one populated from the same kind of script that the Harvard link Cronbot reads uses? Because in my experience the online lists never seem to catch all the exit nodes, meaning there are open ones only findable by going through Tor itself (even if this is a temporary discrepancy between the actual network and what is listed). -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 20:22, 17 September 2006 (UTC)
- Well the tor program itself gets the list by connecting to the directory servers which gives details of the server nodes available within tor and the capabilites (such as inbound, outbound restrictions on ports etc.). Servers dynamically register with these servers. By default there are 3 listed (or at least in the source I built from config.c - add_default_trusted_dirservers), my code only queries one of these servers, if you wanted certainty of getting everything I guess you'd want to query all three and any others you know of. --pgk 20:34, 17 September 2006 (UTC)
- I'll add that this is a known weakness with TOR so it won't stay this way forever... --pgk 20:37, 17 September 2006 (UTC)
- Okay, then you certainly have a much more robust way of finding nodes than my way, which was just connecting by restarting the local service and then using
torify wget
to see what the current IP was via Special:Mytalk. Then I guess the only real question left is whether your script is equipped to post to somewhere like WP:OP. That seems to be the main use remaining for this bot (although I'm not sure I couldn't find some use for the PGP stuff). -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 20:39, 17 September 2006 (UTC)- Well it was only partially done, I was more looking at proof of concept than as a practical use on wikipedia. --pgk 21:00, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

Who do you think you are, the popes defender? Where do you get off making all these reverts, and then apologizing for them?
Pope Benedict said he was sorry his islamic frienss were offended by his remarks in early September. This is a classic non-apology apology. Please alloe others to interpret the truth before you hit the revert button.
In September, 2006, Pope Benecict the sixteenth, after quoting an ancient text critical of Islam, made a similar non-apology. ...of going up for RfA? I'd feel a lot better about the level of vandalism on enWiki if you were a sysop. I know you have posted messages saying that you don't want it, but I really think that you would be a great addition, and would do a wonderful job. alphaChimp(talk) 06:23, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
- You are too kind, sir, too kind. Even if I did want to, some things have come up lately and I wouldn't be around enough. It looks like you're doing a pretty swell job yourself, anyway, so what do they need me for? By the way, how's the mop going? Has it made you cynical and aloof yet, or are you still working on that? -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 06:27, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
- Well, the offer will remain open for whenever you'd like to go for it. I'll check in every once in a while to see how it's going. As for the main reason why we need you-- in a word: convenience. It'd be a heck of a lot better if you didn't have to report vandal (I've seen your reports sit there for a while). Someone with your technical expertise could probably figure out a lot of cool ways to use the sysop tools (it might also help some with Cronbot and the open proxy issue). I've just been consistently impressed with everything I've seen from you. I'm not saying that you're perfect, but you have the courage to admit mistakes and to apply them towards your future editing (all this would go in the nom, btw). We could always use more sysops like that.
- As for me, it's really gratifying to think I'm helping out the 'pedia. I've been doing a lot of NPP (the tools really help for that). It can be stressful and time consuming, but it's about the same as vandal fighting. As for being cynical and aloof...I won't even stoop so low as to respond to that. alphaChimp(talk) 06:55, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
- As always, I really appreciate that, and I didn't mean it if my above joke(s) seemed dismissive. It's true that AIV isn't always constantly policed (and not to point fingers, but thank you for not making "make me an admin because no one is ever at AIV!" a focal part of your RFA, as I've seen a few admins get into office on this argument and then vanish from the CV front), but I feel like that's okay as long as I can keep tabs on who the vandal of the moment is. Like you, I didn't start editing here with the plan of becoming an admin someday, and since all I really do is RC patrol, I don't really feel tempted by the ability to block. I'm moreso afraid of instating bad blocks, and I'm quite aware that I don't have a firm grasp on all the important policies yet (mainly regarding images, many of which I really, really wish I could just delete on sight, like with the "Goatse" image uploaded earlier today for the sole purpose of vandalism).
On top of that, I'm really not eager to see how my calling someone a "petulant child" a short while back would go over at RFA, admitting mistakes or not. Also, it's really funny when a vandal occasionally accuses me of being in "the cabal".
But anyway, if I do decide to get off my high horse about adminship, you'll be the first person I beg for an RFA from. For now, I kind of think there are enough admins up and about most of the time and I'm not so sure if I would have the time or patience to learn how to use blocking powers artfully. I'm kind of starting to hate this username, too, so I don't know how that would factor in if I were to become an admin. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 07:18, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

Edit on Michael Savage
First off, thanks for taking RC patrol. You're the first line of defense against vandals. That said, I've tried to edit the Michael Savage page a couple of times to clarify a wiki link, in the MSNBC section, where Savage's quote says "...eat a sausage, I hope you choke on it" (or something to that effect.)
The word sausage is a wiki link to the article for real sausages, but it is almost certainly NOT what Michael "I Hate Gay People" Savage meant in this context. Readers may be confused by the reference and, when following the wiki link for clarification, be all the more confused.
I tried to change the link twice, first to "Penis" and then to "Fellatio", which you may agree is more correct in context. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 12.226.170.248 (talk • contribs) 02:27, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for being a good sport about my silly edit summary, first of all. I think the best thing to do here is to delink "sausage" altogether. While Savage may dislike gays (I personally don't know a thing about him, including who he even is), it really just seems like an assumption to conclude that the use of "sausage" here is a phallic reference. Sorry if you think that sounds naive, but, again, I don't really see why this word needs to be wikilinked at all, especially considering that it may only serve to generate controversy.
Thank you for the kind sentiments, by the way. I appreciate it. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 02:34, 20 September 2006 (UTC)- Now that I think about it, removing the link probably is the best solution; to do otherwise would make an inference that doesn't really belong here. MY DELETION
I posted that because that user had deleted my article which he had no reason to. My God! I have people deleting webpages with no problem no profanity, but an opinion slightly in it... I have people deleting my webpages for absolutely no reason at all, and now I have people deleting my opinion about someones opinion. I SWEAR WIKIPEDIA'S ARTICLE CREATING IS SO MESSED UP IT'S AS IF THE SITE IS USELESS! I mean why should I bother creating an artcle because it'll most likely be deleted because it has the word "the" in it... If you don't see the problems in it then you must be blind because wikipedia is about teaching, and I'm not even being allowed to teach... It's a wonder articles get created like "mastrubation" but an article talking about a school speech class is deleted... WHERE'S THE EQUALITY WIKIPEDIA???!!!!!!!

I will never get tired of saying it. Thank you! Thank you for catching the vandalism of DaveShaw508 and 24.10.29.154. in the Langston Hughes article. It's nice to know there are good guys at Wiki like you who are making a difference with your diligent efforts to fight vandalism. Again, thank you so very much.TonyCrew 01:31, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
- No problem, you're more than welcome. I'll try to keep watching that article. Thank you for the kind words, and thanks for helping out with the counter-vandalism to that article as well; now that I look at the article history, it looks like you should be mainly thanking yourself for keeping that article in good shape. Kudos. (I'm going offline for now, by the way, so sorry in advance if I miss any more vandalism in the meantime.) -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 02:06, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

Al Qaeda
With all due respect, your editing of the Al Qaeda article is unnecessary. Adding the word "alleged" does NOT inflict my bias on the subject. I was implying that it may or may not have definately been Al Qaeda responsible. I did not say it was, nor did I say the converse. That's the epitome of neutrality. It may very well be Al Qaeda that was behind the attacks, but, if you look at the handful of books and documentaries that contest this (from all around the world) you can see that it is FAR from confirmed, as many people do not believe they had anything to do with it. Again, this is not my personal opinion, but to more than claim, but to INSIST that they were behind the attacks, with little evidence and much less than a unanimous agreement, is violating the neutrality policy. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by All5Horizons (talk • contribs) 04:30, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

greetings
thank you for explaining me why i got blocked.
it seems i added too many times my link to may pages. yes indeed i added a link in pages that actually didnt have any links like in the majority of pages about mauritania for example. which means that, they are not good pages in terms of content. i do think i was enriching the content of the page while addind a link to my photo archive page in the section of mauritania.
http://photosaroundtheworld.wordpress.com/tag/photos/africa/north-africa/mauritania/
so how come this is considered to be bad? i mean links are good as they result on a external way of getting more stuff from a specific place.
while surfing in the other pages i was trying to add my link, i notice other link to photos, and i have to say mine is indeed quite aucrate and with good information. i don't consider it to be my site, or my personal website. my personal website is www.joaoleitaofoto.com which i never related it to anything.
strange to see how in this case spam cops (hehe sorry about the name) were not accurate. sorry bt i do not agree.
thank you
yours

Goodmorning,
The "FISC EuroTour" external link has been unnecessarily removed. Should you check the eligibility page of our website at http://fisc-europe.org/Eligible_Cars_EMC.php , you will recognize that the Triumph Herald is listed and welcome to race with us at some of the great historic F1 circuits.
Thanks 81.206.231.18 05:45, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
- I totally disagree with the link spamming you've been engaged in. In a similar manner a spark plug manufacturer or tyre manufacturer, or a nut and bolt supplier, or an auto electrician, or a mobile mechanic, an upholsterer, a spray shop, a roll cage manufacturer or just about anyone remotely connected to the vehicle that is the subject of an article could put a link to their website on every page referring to a vehicle they could provide services for. You'd get the articles on cities full of links for every holiday company, airline and cruise line that went there, links to every car hire company on every page for a city and town that had a car hire depot nearby. Wikipedia is not a link farm and hopefully never will be. Hell I even own a car that is on your eligibility list which I drive regularly in Europe, I follow historic racing and rallying yet I still can't condone the link spamming / backdoor free internet promotion you were trying to achieve. It just isn't the way things are done here! M100 17:10, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
Zeus page revert, 09/26/2006
Omi, I visited the Zeus page shortly after your revert today, and found some minor vandalism still present - it was introduced in one of the early edits on 9/25. I fixed this up manually and documented the vandal on the Talk page for that article. Just dropping an FYI in case you wonder why I edited the page you reverted. Keep up the good work. :) Wingchild 17:55, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

Autism edit
Dear Sir, I finally looked at the message about editing the Autism page. Honestly, I don't think it was me personally, as I have only edited one page in my time using Wiki. That was the page of the Wisconsin men's hockey team with regard to their conference affiliation. I changed it from CCHA to WCHA, which is factually accurate.
This is a work computer so I'm not sure if others share this IP. I believe I have been to the Autism page at one time quite some time ago, but I don't think I edited it for anything. I really value the Wiki and take any attempt at editing very seriously, which is why I've only done it once.
I'm sorry if it was my fault. I think I will be creating an account to avoid this anonymity problem from now on. I hope you were able to recover any lost content from my or anyone else's mistake.
Peace,

Another Self Appointed Small Minded Bureaucrat
It doesnt matter that you just blindly reverted something I wrote and silenced my opinion on a talk page. What matters is by your own descriptions of yourself you represent everything thats wrong with Wikipedia. Self appointed bureaucrats like yourself are as bad as the people who cancel out edits to forward their own moral agenda. Wikipedia rewards jerks like you who put in so much "effort" even though by your own admission you are an expert on nothing. Sorry, I'm new to this. Not wikipedia, but editing/contributing on it. The problem is that Solution-Soft has had a copyright on a software application, Time Machine, for a decade now. Apple may have a slight problem if they actually release their software under this name as it is somewhat similar in descriptions. Basically both allow applications to move forward in date or time. The original posting for the Apple "Time Machine" negatively affects SolutionSoft by causing confusion in the market place. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Michaelmorrison (talk • contribs) 05:17, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
- But even if we were to dedicate this article name to the non-Apple "Time Machine", where would the Apple product go? It would just show up on another page with a similar and equivalent name. If you want, you can start a new article about the SolutionSoft program and use the {{for}} template to link to it discreetly on the current page. Deleting the entry on the Apple product just isn't a viable solution, though. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 05:31, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
torstuff
I've responded on the bot approval page. But yes you should be able to get every node from the tor directory, the client selects it's routing based on the directory, so if it isn't in the directory it'll never be routed that way.
Regarding signing, it wasn't a probem I thought to deeply about I guess I took a view that if someone did that, tough. The problem with signing is it relies on people checking the validity of the signature, something I believe won't happen (or at least not as often as it should), that said there is clearly no harm in doing the signing.
On the pywiki front, my code doesn't use that to do the updating. If you want copies of my stuff to see if it's of any use to you, then email me and I'll send it you. I've never heard of the kid before, but if you look over the press clippings here, the Matthew Savage with a Wikipedia bio seems pretty notable (certainly more than a lot of the cruft that builds up on those day-of-the-year pages).
