{{unreferenced}] Omid is a Persian word meaning 'hope.' It is also a common name among Iranian males. Famous Omid's include Omid Abdi, Khosrow Omid, Omid Garibaghlu, Omid Sarmad, Omid Shabrokh, Omid Djalili, and Omid Mottaghi, starring in the 2004 blockbuster movie House In Hell.

Omid is also the name of a website (http://www.abfiran.org) which documents many victims of the Iranian revolution.
