[edit] Art style
Chkhaidze's work is thoroughly Modernist in style and shows influences from artists such as Modigliani, Miro, Klee and the Cubists. His subject matter, largely, is the human head; usually drawn in line on an earth-tone ground. His paintings are Christian in overtone and can be divided into two categories:
One is the traditional Madonna and Child brushed in Matisse like calligraphy on a ground reminiscent of Klee.
The other works are Surrealist or Cubist in nature with similarly spiritual themes.
[edit] Painting technique
Chkhaidze builds the paint up on the canvas in many, sometime hundreds, of layers using the finest artist quality materials available. This, he hopes, will retard their deterioration over time.
