Olympic Hall Zetra

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Olympic Hall Zetra is an indoor ice hockey arena in Sarajevo, Bosnia. It was built in 1983 and holds 12,000 people. The ice hockey games and the speed skating events from the 1984 Winter Olympics were held at this arena. Until 1991, it has been the venue for several international speed skating events and several speed skating world records have been broken here. 1992, shortly after the begining of the Yugoslavian civil war, it was hit by bombshells and burned down completely. After the war they found out that the ground-structure of the strongly damaged building is alright, so it was rebuild from 1997 to 1999 with the help of the UN-Troops. Now it's back in service for several events. It lies 564 meters (1,850 feet) above sea level.

Before the war the roof was mostly made of copper, in the war it was removed for tarpaper (that's why it burned out so fast) to make ammunition material of it. Today it has a plastic-roof wich looks like the original copper-style.
