The Olympia Amateur Radio Society (OARS) is an amateur radio organization located in Olympia, Washington. The Society operates a VHF 2 Meter communications repeater on 147.360 MHz (+ offset, PL 103.5 on TX output only), a 70 centimeter repeater on 441.40 MHz (PL 103.5), and a 1.25 m repeater on 224.46 MHz. All three repeaters are linked; that is, what is received on one is retransmitted on the others. The society operates the repeaters under the amateur radio call sign of NT7H.

[edit] Purpose

The Olympia Amateur Radio Society's function is to promote the interest of and active participation in amateur radio, emergency communications and public service in Thurston County, Washington. OARS also sponsors and supports the local Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) organization.

The repeaters help local hams provide support to many local community services such as parades, various community walks and races, and most important of all, they are available for any emergency that may arise. OARS offers monthly Ham radio license testing, and instruction, holding three formal class series each year. OARS also provides a 3-Node packet facility and packet BBS.

Regular meetings are held at South Bay Fire Station, at 3506 Shincke Road North-East, Olympia , 7 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday of each month except December.

[edit] Field day

OARS participates in the annual Field Day activity, conducted by the ARRL on the fourth full weekend every June. OARS participation in this event has continued for over fifty years.
