[edit] Summary
Detail of self-portrait of Isaac Oliver at about the age of 30, circa 1595.
This image was scanned from: Mary Edmond, Hilliard and Oliver (1983) and purports to have a British Crown copyright. However, this enlargement that Ms Edmond had obtained – presumably from the National Portrait Gallery, London, who now owns the miniature – was taken from a picture of the miniature, which it can be seen was cropped from an existent photo. This same photo was apparently taken from an auction catalogue, and the photographer is not given credit.
A "PD-BritishGov", therefore, is not easy to determine, but is likely since those who own such miniatures are extremely protective of them: not allowing them to be photographed too often.
Never-the-less, its use here is for educational purposes, and it is not a good quality reproduction. One will need to pay the National Portrait Gallery for such.
