Oldsmobile Curved Dash
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Curved Dash Oldsmobile is credited as the first high-volume mass-produced automobile. It was introduced by the Oldsmobile company in 1901 and produced through 1904. 425 examples were produced the first year.
It was a runabout model, could seat 2 passengers, and sold for US$650, the lowest price point on the market. The flat-mounted water-cooled single-cylinder engine, situated at the center of the car, produced 4 hp (3 kW). Unusually for its competitors, a 3-speed sliding transmission (as opposed to a planetary gearset) was fitted. The car weighed 850 lb (386 kg) and used Concord springs.
