Old town Visoki

Old town Visoki was a famous medieval town and castle during the fourteenth century located in Visoko, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The first mentioning of the town was on September 1, 1355, even though many believe that the town was established years earlier. During the Ottoman occupation the castle along with the town was severely damaged. It is currently located in the town of Visoko, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The town and castle of Visoki is located at the top of the mountain Visočica at the height of 766.5 meters. It is positioned, so that the town has a brilliant view of the plains located down below. The entry to the castle is located to the southwest, passing through the early suburbs of "Podvisoki." The town was a relatively small size ranging from 60 meters by 25 meters. The castle had two towers that were used as look out towers. The area inside the castle has signs and remains of early medieval houses. The thickness of the walls is about 2 meters.

The main function of the castle of Visoki was to serve as a defensive outpost. However, it is also the location were many important documents and legislation of medieval Bosnia was signed and written. The last document signed was by Tvrtko Borovinić in 1436. This shows the importance of the town not only being an outpost defensive town, but also of high importance to the Bosnian royalty.
