Old Town Market Place, Warsaw
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Warsaw's Old Town Market Place (Rynek Starego Miasta) is the center of the Old Town of Warsaw, capital of Poland.
The Rynek has been rebuild in 17th- and 18th century style in the 1970s, after being completely demolished during the Second World War. Nowadays, it is mostly a place for tourists.
The four sides of the square have their own names:
- Strona Dekerta, the north side, which is where the Warsaw Historical Museum is located. The entrance is in a house called 'Under the Negro' (Pod Murzynkiem), named after a sign placed above the doorway in the past.
- Strona Barssa, the east side, where the Mickiewicz Museum, honouring the Polish writer Adam Mickiewicz, is.
- Strona Hugo Kołłątaja, the west side, named after one of the authors of the Constitution of May 3, 1791
- Strona Zakrzewskiego
