Ol Sonuf

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ol Sonuf is a dark, neo-classical metal band, whose membership consists solely of founding member Jason Aaron Wood (guitarist of Todesbonden, ex-Ephemeral Sun, ex-Rain Fell Within). Jason plays, programs, and composes all music for Ol Sonuf, with the exception of female vocals provided by Laurie Ann Haus (founder/singer of Todesbonden, singer of Autumn Tears, ex-Ephemeral Sun, ex-Rain Fell Within, etc.).

Ol Sonuf's style is particularly interesting, as it cannot be pinned down to a single genre of metal, but combines aspects of Doom Metal, Death Metal, Black Metal, and Power Metal, as well as Classical Music from several periods, into an epic and symphonic amalgam of beautifully melodic and exciting music.

[edit] Releases

In 2003, after releasing the 12-song demo "Vaoresaji," Ol Sonuf immediately began work on its next two musical endeavors, "While Rome Burns," and "Glass Idols." "While Rome Burns" is a concept album focused around the fall of the Roman Emperor Nero and the civil war and rapid succession of emperors which followed in the subsequent struggle for power among the many generals stationed about Europe. "Glass Idols" follows a more traditional metal LP form, with no interconnected theme throughout its songs, and focusing on various dark subjects. "Glass Idols" will also feature a remake of the songs "The Pain of Understanding" and "Fugue in C# Minor," which were featured on the "Vaoresaji" demo.

Production for both albums is still in the works, with a tentative release scheduled for late 2007.
