Olívio Dutra

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Olívio Dutra (born 10 June 1941 in Bossoroca) is a Brazilian politician, a founder and current member of the Workers' Party (PT). He was mayor of Porto Alegre from 1989 to 1992 (the first of four terms, totalling 16 years of PT government in the city), as well as governor of Rio Grande do Sul from 1999 to 2002. His term as governor was so divisive that his own party failed to endorse him for reelection. After Luís Inácio Lula da Silva was elected president, he was appointed Minister for the Cities, but he was replaced before the end of Lula's presidential term.
