Okudono Domain

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Okudono (奥殿藩 Okudono-han?), also known as Ogyū-han and later, Tatsuoka-han, was a Japanese domain of the Edo period, with holdings scattered between Mikawa Province and Shinano Province. The ruling family was the Ogyū-Matsudaira. Late in the Edo period, the domain achieved prominence thanks to its last daimyo, Matsudaira Norikata, becoming a senior councilor in the Tokugawa Shogunate. Another contemporary figure born in Okudono was Nagai Naoyuki. During Norikata's tenure, the domain seat was moved from Mikawa to the Tanoguchi district of Shinano province (though the holdings remained), and with the construction of Tatsuoka Castle, it became known as Tatsuoka han. The domain was disbanded in the 1870s.
