From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Oklahoma mid-term Congressional election was held on Tuesday 7 November 2006, with four of the five members of the Oklahoma delegation to the U.S. House of Representatives deciding to run for re-election (and one member retiring to run for Governor of Oklahoma), thus creating an open seat.

The winners (as indicated below with popular vote percentage) will serve from 3 January 2007 to 3 January 2009. Neither U.S. Senator from Oklahoma is up for election this year.

  • David Hunter (Democrat) (Received 37%)
  • Mary Fallin (Republican) (Winner with 61% of the vote)
  • Matthew Horton Woodson (Independent) (Received 2%)

Oklahoma's District 5 was the only Congressional open seat in 2006. Several Oklahoma Democrats and Republicans filed for the primary; the seat is dominated by metropolitan Oklahoma City and tends to be heavily Republican nationally and locally. The district has sent a Republican to Congress in every election since 1976.

[edit] No unexpected results in 2006

The results this year were as expected; every incumbent member of Congress won without much opposition. The Republican candidate was widely expected to win in District 5; Mary Fallin won the seat, as expected.
