[edit] Route description

OK-31 begins at OK-48 seven miles south of Tupelo. Two miles east, OK-31B branches off, connecting with the town of Olney. OK-31 then continues 10 miles to Coalgate, the seat of Coal County, where it intersects US 75/OK-3.

Leaving Coalgate, OK-31 turns north at OK-131, traveling 22 miles to its junction with OK-31A, which connects with US 270 at Stuart. At OK-31A, OK-31 turns to the east, following the northern edge of the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant, arriving in McAlester, seat of Pittsburg County, 22 miles later.

In McAlester, OK-31 forms a five-mile triplex with US 270 and OK-1, splitting up just east of the US 69 interchange on the east side of the city. OK-31 then sets off to the northeast, passing through Krebs, and crossing the south arm of Lake Eufaula, and arrives at Quinton, 27 miles from McAlester.

At Quinton, OK-31 serves as the southern terminus for OK-71, then heads east, forming a six-mile duplex with OK-2 to the town of Kinta. At Kinta, OK-2 turns north, and OK-31 continues east, with a short dogleg duplex with OK-82 at Lequire.

Continuing on to the east, OK-31 passes OK-82 at McCurtain, and passes though Bokoshe before terminating at US 59/US 271, two miles north of Panama.
