Oi (mobile phone network)

Oi, Portuguese for "Hi" (corporate name: TNL PCS S.A., with TNL standing for its parent, Telemar Norte Leste S.A.), is a Brazilian mobile phone company, owned by Telemar.

Oi was launched in 2002, in the states where Telemar is the ILEC:

Oi was the first mobile phone carrier using GSM in Brazil.

Oi refers to its phones not as "cell phones", but as "Ois".

In January 5th 2005, Oi and broadcaster Bel launched Oi FM Belo Horizonte, the first Oi-branded radio station. Oi FM stations were later launched in Vitória, Fortaleza, Recife, Uberlândia and Rio de Janeiro. The Rio station replaced Rádio Cidade, which was the oldest station in operation in the city.
