[edit] Oi! = streetpunk?

Regarding the suggestion that the article on street punk and the article on Oi! be merged:

The two musical styles are very different, and Oi! is more usually associated with skinheads. I don't think that this would be a good idea.

Street Punk has always been associated with being against racism, some of their bands have been better known for their socialistic ideals, and is a completely different style of music in its own right. So merging the two is not a good idea.

Who put that about the Bruisers being Neo-Nazi? Absolute rubbish. Complete rubbish. Get your facts straight. And the Bruisers didn't become the Dropkick Murphys. Al Barr disbanded the band so he could join the Dropkicks. What you wrote is complete utter rubbish. So rubbish I've deleted it.

i think it might be an idea to put street punk at the stat of the Oi! page but leavein street punk as an obviously seperate genre

Öï!Öï!Öï!

Oi! isn't a seperate genre from streetpunk. It's the same thing. Oi! was never just for skinheads. Most of the first Oi! bands had punks in them. Many of the first Oi! bands had anti-racist and socialistic ideals too. -5-skin

Oi! used to be called street punk but it's really different now. Bands which are commonly refered to as oi like, the business, 4skins, & cockney rejects sound nothing like street punk groups like, The Restarts, Casualties, Cheap sex, & The Exploited. Even in the 80's the difference was tremendous, if anybody thinks that The abrasive wheels should be in the same sub genre as cocksparrer then they're deaf or something. -Spit

PS. Nazi bands don't consider themselves part of the oi genre or even punk they prefer RAC.

It seems a lot of bands relate themselves with both Oi and Street Punk, mostly the bands that seem to have more of a rock and roll sound. I've heard people say that bands like Global Threat are the sound of street punk, but then bands like Tanka Ray, Brassknuckle Boys, Roustabouts, Terminus City and Weekend Warriors have labeled themselves street punk or street rock and roll on numerous occasions as well as being part of the Oi scene. Maybe it comes from the song, Street Rock and Roll by (was it Section 5 or Last Resort?) that causes so many R&R influenced Oi bands to classify themselves as such but there is a confusion regarding the genre and bands and zines don't help by perpetuating it.--Skeev 20:05, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Are "racism" and "far right" links superfluous?

Instead of entering into an edit war about these seemingly minor differences of opinion, perhaps that (those) anonymous editor who feels they are unnecessary could state why. And also why this person(s) doesn't want the link to the Belarussian Oi!-page to remain. --meco 09:32, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

-The Bellarussian site isn't in English, so what's the point of linking it here?

[edit] I want to make this article good, but...

So, Spylab, how can i improve on these pages without you reverting them to their inferior origins? I'd really like to improve these articles but i don't have the time or interest to make sure they aren't being changed hours after i work on them. I'm pretty sure Wikipedia isn't supposed to just be the dominion of those that compulsively tend to articles, but should be for the highest quality articles. Right? Sean P. Try sticking to the facts and not inserting your point of view, for a start. Second, changes are less likely to be contested if they are small, instead of practically rewriting the whole article. A lot of your so-called improvements don't make the article any better than it was before. You mostly reworded things to make them longer, when the point was already clearly explained in just a few words. Spylab 18:28, 4 July 2006 (UTC)Spylab

[edit] The Exploited

I have tried to remove The Exploited from this listing of Oi bands, as they have nothing to do with Oi, but this has seemingly not been allowed..............Faren Short

  • The Exploited had two songs on the first Oi! compilation album (Oi! the Album), and were definitely considered Oi! in the beginning.Spylab 15:50, 18 August 2006 (UTC)Spylab

While that is true, i still wouldn't call them an Oi! band as they still had little to do with that style of music. Black Flag was on a subsequent Oi! album but i wouldn't say they had anything to do with Oi! either. Seeing as the genre was still in it's infancy, you had to fill out the record. This being said, many bands that got lumped onto those albums had little to do with the original movement.

[edit] Merging Oi! punk ideology

I agree with the merge message that was posted on the Oi! punk ideology article. That article pretty much duplicates the Oi! article. In fact the Oi! article has more information about politics than the Oi! punk ideology article.Spylab 22:05, 8 September 2006 (UTC)Spylab
