State Route 279 is an east-west state highway in the south central portion of the U.S. state of Ohio. Its western terminus is at State Route 139 11½ miles west of Oak Hill, and its eastern terminus is at U.S. Route 35 near Centerville.

• 1931 – Original route established; originally routed from Oak Hill to Centerville (then Thurman)^[2].
• 1939 – Extended 11½ miles west of Oak Hill along a previously unnumbered road to its current western terminus^[2].
• unknown – Extended ½ mile east of Centerville along the former alignment of U.S. Route 35 to its current eastern terminus^[2].
