The Metro Junior League disbands. The Toronto Marlboros rejoin the OHA, as do the Oshawa Generals although they play their first season in Bowmanville. The other teams in the Metro Junior League cease operations. The Guelph Royals become the Kitchener Rangers.

Junior 'A' hockey is divided into "Tier I" and "Tier II." The OHA Junior A teams from 1972 became the Tier I division.
The Montreal Junior Canadiens move to the QMJHL; the Niagara Falls Flyers move to Sudbury and become the Sudbury Wolves; Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds granted a franchise.
