Oestinghausen

Oestinghausen is a village in the municipality of Lippetal in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany with a population of 2076 (as at 20 June 2005).

Oestinghausen has a primary school and a Kindergarten. The Sportclub Schwarz-Gelb Oestinghausen, the Carnival-Club and the "Schuetzenverein" Sankt Hubertus are using the Community-Hall Oestinghausen and the sports field regularly. Other clubs are the marching band Oestinghausen, the Scouts and a volunteer fire department.

Oestinghausen is located on the Bundesstraße 475 (Federal Road) about seven Kilometers north of the city of Soest, Germany on the creeks Ahse and Rosenaue, whitch are flowing together south of the village. 51°38′09″n, 08°06′09″e.

The center of economy is located in the area of the old train station. Here are a Supermarket, a hairdresser, bank, pharmacy, and stationery and photo-shop with Post office. In the industrial estate are several companies located.

Oestinghausen was an old Saxon settlement, and was first mentioned in a document in the year 1189. After the "Soester Fehde" with ended with the separation of Soest from the bishops of Cologne in 1449 stayed Oestinghausen with the bishops of Cologne. The "Amt Oestinghausen" had its own jurisdiction. In the year 1802 the estates of the bishops of Cologne had been new organized and Oestinghausen bekame part of Hessen. 1808 was the population of Oestinghausen 552 people. 1816 had Oestinghausen became Prussian. Oestinghausen belongs since then to the district of Soest and lost his own jurisdiction. Since then the "Amt Oestinghausen" consists of the villages of Bettinghausen, Eickelborn, Heintrop-Bünninghausen, Hovestadt, Hultrop, Krewinkel-Wiltrop, Lohe, Niederbauer, Nordwald, Oestinghausen, Ostinghausen and Schoneberg. From 1898 a narrow-gauge (1 m wide) railway, later known as Pengel Anton from the "Westfälische Landeseisenbahn" had been build for the development of the rural area. In Oestinghausen a four-track switchyard and station had been constructed, because here a junction to the village of Hovestadt connected to the main rail from Hamm to Soest. The last train traveled on 5 October 1952. In the year1900 the population was 590 people in the year 1939, 602.

In 1969 the "Amt Oestinghausen" has been disbanded and as a result of the municipal reorganization the village Oestinghausen had been added to the municipal Lippetal .

The most importend building is the romanesque church Saint Stephanus in the old center of the village. It has been the parish church for the villages Oestinghausen, Krewinkel, Wiltrop and Niederbauer.

The church had been build on or about the year 1000 as parich church for the here located episcopally main farm (erzbischöflichen Oberhof). In 1186 confirmed the bishop of Cologne Phillip von Heinzberg the "Oberhof". In the thirteenth century the church had been upgrade of a Transept and the ceiling had been build as a vault. The top of the steeple had been erected in the year of 1715. The altar in Baroque style (about 1685), the sidealtars has been build in the late Rococo style (abt. 1775). In the years 1975 to 1980 the church had been restored and secured.

The chuch is surrounded by several half-timbered houses. There is also the "Chur Cöllnische Amtshaus". The court writer worked and lived in this Renaissance-style half-timbered house.
