[edit] History
In 1851, the New Hampshire General Court authorized the governor and council to appoint a land commissioner to sell the public lands, and James Willey of Conway was appointed to that office. In 1834, Odell, which contained 23,751 acres, was sold by Commissioner Willey to Richard Odell of Conway for $1,863.
[edit] Geography
Odell is bounded to the west by Stratford, to the south by Stark, to the east by Dummer and Millsfield, and to the north by Erving's Location and Columbia.
A substantial portion of the Nash Stream Forest lies within the township. There are three mountains, each having elevations above 3,000 feet: Muise Mountain, Whitcomb Mountain and Long Mountain, whose two summits are the two highest points in Odell, at 3,661 feet (1,116 meters) above sea level each. There are only a few rough roads and no highways here.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 117.0 km² (45.2 mi²). 115.2 km² (44.5 mi²) of it is land and 1.8 km² (0.7 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.51% water. Odell is bordered to the north by Columbia and Erving's Location (which according to the Census has a population of 1, although that fact is disputed.)
[edit] Demographics
The 2000 census claims a total population of 5. However, Suzan Collins, the Coos County administrator, disputes this fact.
