Oddset Ligaen

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Oddset Ligaen is the premier league in Danish ice hockey. The name is a result of a sponsorship deal with the state owned gaming company Danske Spil (formerly known as Dansk Tipstjeneste.) It is also known as Superisligaen or Eliteserien, which is the name used in the past and in times where no naming rights agreement is in place.

The league consists of 9 teams who play a 36 game regular season. The top 8 proceed to the playoffs where quarterfinals, semifinals and the final are all played in the best of 7 game format.

In theory, the ninth-placed team will play a promotion/relegation series against the top team(s) fom the 2nd tier league (The First Division), but in recent years the level of play and/or lack of funds of the teams in the First Division has been such that none of the teams from that league have been interested in gaining promotion to the top league in the country.
