Talk:Oda von Haldensleben

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I removed the following:

All names of early Polish rulers are ficticious and therefore this index naming Oda von Haldensleben and her husband Dagome records for the first time rulers of the Polanen tribe. Therefore it is indicated as being the first document of the later developing land named Poland.

This is quite a comment. All names are fictitious? It deserves at least some backing. Danny

Polish history starts with Krak and brothers Chech and Lech ( Czech and Poles)

Depends on which legend do you trust (Johannes Longinus vs. Gall Anonim. Historians are sure only about Mieszko. His ancestors are semi-mythical.Halibutt

The first recorded Slavs were the Moravians, Bohemians as part of the Carolingian empire. Then Rus Northmen ,who settled what was later to become Russia (when they mixed with Slavs). First Polanen tribe records are from Mieszko I and Boleslaw I Chrobry. The records were written down later. Polish language was not written until after 1500 and the Piast name for the rulers did not come into existence until 17st century.

You can check out any book, genealogy, internet, you will not find any earlier records.user:H.J.

Are you sure that the name Piast wasn't used until 17th century? It would mean that the dynasty was created after its' last member died or shortly before that (the last being Jerzy IV Wilhelm of Brzeg).Halibutt 22:07, 30 Jan 2004 (UTC)

I am going to remove the Index thing unless there's a reason for it -- Dagome Iudex makes sense in Latin -- Dagome index makes no sense at all. HK

Can we get some dates in this article to give us some idea of when these events occured? -- Zoe

Polanen is not apparently a word in English. Google returns no English language entries for Polanen tribe. What are they called in English? Rmhermen 05:53 Aug 29, 2002 (PDT) --- I found one source that calls them Polians and another that calls them Polanie -- but most call them Poles. This may be incorrect, but I certainly couldn't say.HK

Contemporary Polish name of the tribe is Polanie (plural) with the root being [polan]. I suppose the English equivalent would be Polans, simply.Halibutt
