[edit] History
Odakyu started its service on first oparation section, from Shin-Yurigaoka to Odakyu-Nagayama on June 1, 1974. It was expand for Odakyu-Tama-Center, the core station of Tama New Town on April 23 in next year. This section is constructed by Japan Railway Construction Cooporation (public, established by government, and it's changed to Japan Railway Construction, Transport and Technology Agency(JRTT) now), and Odakyu operated it and paid repayment costs for the cooporation. And on March 27, 1990, Odakyu made Karakida station in oparation.
This line was constructed on double track system, but Odakyu couldn't took a large part of transport between Tokyo and Tama New Town, because no room for operating extra train serices for this purpose, by the delay about four track construction on Odawara Line.
After 2000, when it was partly completed the construction, Odakyu has started rapid train service on Tama Line, and succeed in uprising a number of passengers, shorting the cost time. This line is regarded as a part of Tokyo Line 9, linked with Chiyoda Line and Odawara Line, in Transport Policy Council report #18 in 2000, that belonged to Ministry of Transport (it has changed to Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MILT)).
