Octoraro Railroad

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Octoraro Railroad was formed in the 1980s and took over a portion of the former Pennsylvania Railroad branch line that ran from Chadds Ford, PA to Sylmar, MD. At Chadd's Ford, connection was made with a former Reading Co. branch, the Wilmington and Northern. This provides the Octoraro with access to the national rail network. According to documents from the U.S. Railroad Retirement Board, the Octoraro Railroad ceased operations on June 30, 1994. However, the Morristown and Erie Railway's website reports that they operated the Octoraro from July 1, 2003 to November 18, 2004 and documents from the Association of American Railroads still list the railroad as operating track through December 31, 2004. The railroad may now be operated as a subsidiary or the East Penn Railway.
