October Language is an album by Belong, released in on 7 February 2006. The release received rave reviews that mentioned the duo’s New Orleans residence and the My Bloody Valentine or Kevin Shields influence over its sound. Though lacking the pop-rock form of most MBV tracks, the underlying melodies and the detail placed on the texture of the guitars are what place this group somewhere in the realm of the shoegazer sound. Though the album was recorded well before the Hurricane Katrina natural disaster hit New Orleans, it seems to be linked to the event with its harsh and melancholy tone, as well as the overall theme of wreckage and distortion.
