Oceanus carrageenan
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Carrageenan™ is a personal lubricant gel intended for sexual use. The name refers to the product's prinicipal gelling ingredient. Carrageenan (the ingredient) has been shown to block the infectivity of some sexually transmitted viruses, such as HIV, human papillomaviruses and herpes simplex viruses in laboratory studies. A clinical trial examining whether a carrageenan-based product known as Carraguard™ is effective as a topical microbicide for blocking HIV infection in women is expected to be completed in 2007.
