Ocean Lakes High School (OLHS) is a public high school in Virginia Beach, Virginia and is located in the city's southeastern section.

The school's most unique feature is the Math and Science Academy; one of several magnet programs in Virginia Beach. Students throughout the city interested in a math and science education can apply for admission to the Academy. Entry to the Academy requires recommendations, above average grades, and excellent performance on an aptitude test.[1]

Ocean Lakes is one of five Virginia Beach high schools ranked in the top 1200 in Newsweek's 2006 ranking of American high schools.[2]

This unique team at Ocean Lakes is completely student initiated. Inspired by wind tunnels at NASA, they strive to build Ocean Lakes High's first wind tunnel. This team is led by Project Manager Heidi Beemer and the enthusiastic sponsers Mr. Keith Leonard and Mr. Sonier. The tentative project completion date is March 1, 2007.

[edit] Cheerleading

In 2006, the competition cheerleading team was coached by Ms. Seacrist. The team won the Beach District and Regional competitions and were competitors in the State Competition.

[edit] Scholastic Bowl

Led this year by senior Kunle Demuren, the Ocean Lakes Scholastic Bowl Team has become legendary in both the Beach District and Eastern Region. With one close loss away from an undefeated VHSL season after Captain Ray Lee mispronounced an answer in the team round, Ocean Lakes came back to beat Princess Anne twice in the district tournament. Last year, in the regional tournament Kecoughtan beat Princess Anne, but fell twice to Ocean Lakes who then went on to be second in the state tournament after a thrilling win against Maggie Walker. Several months later the team went to the 2006 NAQT High School National Championship Tournament, where they finished with a preliminary record of 5-5 (which included an easy win by Maggie Walker) and missed the playoffs. As a junior, Kunle was given an award for being the 7th highest individual scorer in the tournament, which included over 650 players. Ocean Lakes' results can be found here: http://www.naqt.com/hsnct/2006/results/86.html

In the 2005-2006 installment of the Battle of the Brains TV show, they fought their way to the Southeast region title but lost narrowly to Maggie Walker in the finals. After the first three rounds OL had been ahead, but then lost it in the fourth and final round.
