Livelink ECM - Obtree WCM* from Open Text is a high-performance real-time web site assembly and delivery engine running as a module (servlet) inside (underneath) well known web servers.

Obtree is used to build template frameworks for entire web-sites or e-business applications (web applications), capture and manage content (information as text, pictures, binaries) in it's lifecycle and finally deliver personalized pages (compound documents) to information consumers or offering aggregated views on content via API.

The alleged strength of Obtree WCM is its throughout support of multiple languages and encodings. Beside language instances each object can be registered for different media types (output channels) suing a differently layout and/or content. All objects are managed in a tree, easy to manage by authors, developers and administrators.

The content management front-end is available in English, German, French, Spanish and Danish. Out-of-the-box web-based authoring and site structure management interface with WYSIWYG editors for rich-content, tables and pictures (Java Applets) and tight integration into Microsoft Word (97 - 2003).

Complete database-driven content and site structure storage with pluggable storage adapters (virtual objects) to unified content access from 3rd party repositories as Livelink ECM - DM or Documentum.

The server API (rendering, editing, user management, workflow) is exposed in the server-side Java Script run-time environment (ECMA). It is accessible over SOAP (+WSDL Web Service) and as Java API (J2OI). The package contains a full-featured development and object management environment (IDE light) running on Windows with a remote debugger and profiler.

The first version** was released in 1997 and is today* in use as web information management infrastructure for Internet, Intranet and Extranet by many large or multi-national corporations. Significant market shares in Switzerland, UK and Denmark.

  • 2004 - today, owned and supported by Open Text Corporation, Canada, after the merger with IXOS *
  • 2002 - 2004, another renaming of the product to IXOS-Obtree C4 after the takeover by IXOS (Munich, Germany)
  • 1998 - 2002, the product was renamed to Obtree C3 and later to Obtree C4, the company was renamed to Obtree Technologies Inc. (Basel, Switzerland)
  • 1997 - 1998, transition to a standard software house with the innovation of the product "Dynamic Web Integrator" (DWI), first license sold in November 1998 (Release 1) **
  • 1996 - 1997, Open Mind Systems (Basel, Switzerland) was founded by José Valcarce and Luc Haldimann with focus on the development of customer specific software and Content Management Systems
