Obliterator

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Obliterator is a side-scrolling arcade adventure computer game published by Psygnosis in 1988.

The game was programmed by David H. Lawson and its graphics were made by Garvan Corbett and Jim Ray Bowers.

The game begins when the main character Drak is teleported into the alien spaceship that is approaching the earth. The objective of the game is to destroy the spaceship by finding certain objects from the ship. When the self destruction is active, Drak has to find an escape shuttle before the spaceship blows up in order to survive.

The game was released for many formats including Amiga, Atari ST, MSX, ZX Spectrum and IBM PC.

Especially in Amiga version, the graphics and sound were impressive for then prevailing standards. However, the controls were very sticky causing a problem for gameplay. Despite that, exploring nicely drawn corridors of the alien spaceship with its numerous beautiful enemies proved to be a thrilling experience for many gamers.

The highly successful soundtrack of the game was composed by David Whittaker.

Obliterators are specialised units for chaos in 40k.
