Objects from The Lost Room
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Objects from The Lost Room are the MacGuffins that motivate the characters from the aforementioned Sci Fi Channel miniseries. The Objects number slightly above 100, though no exact figure has been given in the source material. Every Object exhibits similar identifying characteristics, as they are all indestructible and they appear to draw those who posses them to one another. Each is believed to have a unique ability, ranging from virtually useless to incredibly destructive, although they do not function within the "Lost Room," nor are the traits of each Object known to those who seek them.
The Objects are categorized into somewhat haphazard classifications. The Object that is central to the others is referred to as "The Prime Object," and throughout the series several of the Objects have been suspected of being the Prime Object, although the characters also realize that the existence of a "Prime Object" is theoretical, and may not truly exist or function the way they hope. Objects whose purpose has not yet been discovered (the Toothbrush, Bible, Cigarettes) are classified as dormant, while some Objects are treated as weapons, as they possess effects which make them very dangerous, such as the microwave emitting Pen or the flesh destroying/healing Glass Eye.
In addition, some Objects, when combined, grant different powers to their Owners. When two Objects are put together, they can have a new unpredictable ability, as illustrated in the combination of the Wrist Watch and Knife. Alone, the Wrist Watch merely hard-boils eggs, while the Knife appears to do nothing. However, when combined, the Wrist Watch and the Knife give the user a form a telepathy.
Some of the factions attempting to gather these objects are assembling "maps" relating the objects to each other, presumably by determining new effects when combined. There are higher-order combinations of three or more objects that yield still newer powers, such as a group of six objects that causes the door to Room 9 to open in a devastating manner. Most factions believe when all the objects are combined, something astounding will happen; perhaps talking to God, perhaps even reassembling God. The "Prime Object" is the hypothesized central-most object in this branching tree map.
[edit] Objects from the Mini-series
Name | Effect | Combined effect | Owner |
---|---|---|---|
Bible | Unknown | Unknown | Karl Kreutzfeld |
Bus Ticket | Anyone who touches the Bus Ticket is transported to a rural road outside Gallup, New Mexico. Someone (presumably Wally) wrapped a portion of the Bus Ticket in duct tape so that it could be used to transport others without affecting the holder. | Unknown | Wally |
Clock | Transmutes manganese instantly from solid to gaseous form and vice-versa. It was speculated to be the Prime Object that links all the Objects together, but when combined with the Motel Key it failed to work. The hands are frozen at 1:20:45. | Unknown | Karl Kreutzfeld, stolen by Joe Miller but returned later on |
Coat | Unknown (may be worn as bulletproof armor due to the indestructable nature of Objects) | Unknown | Found by Joe Miller, then taken by Karl Kreutzfeld |
Comb | Stops time when the comb is run through the user's hair, but only for 10 seconds. While time is stopped, the holder can move and pick up objects, but only if they are not held in place. The user must have hair to operate it. Use of the Comb can result in nausea. | When combined with the Watchbox, the user can communicate with an individual trapped within an alternate dimension. | Harold Stritsky, later Joe Miller, who gave it to Jennifer |
Deck of Cards | Causes terrifying "visions" in whomever views the Joker card. The psychological aftereffects are devastating. | Unknown | The Order, Dr. Marten Ruber, later Joe Miller |
Drinking Glass | Unknown | Unknown | Located by Suzie Kang, currently with the Order |

Knife | Unknown | When combined with Wrist Watch, grants telepathy. | Unknown |
Matchbook | Unknown | Unknown | The Order |
Motel Key | Opens any door with a pin tumbler lock and turns it into a portal to the Lost Room, which is the 10th room of the Sunrise Motel. The room exists outside of normal space, and can only be viewed from the inside. From the room, the user can exit through any similar door of their choosing anywhere in the world. Items or people left in the room without the key vanish when the door is closed; however, Objects left in the room are instead returned to where they are "supposed to go" in the room. | When combined with the Prime Object, it can supposedly bring vanished items or people back. | Iggy, who in turn gives it to Joe Miller |
Nail File | Induces a deep, but brief, sleep when light reflects off its surface into the subject's eyes. | Unknown | Jennifer, then Joe Miller, then the Legion |
Occupant | Unknown (May control other Objects if Prime Object.) | Unknown | Occupant |
Pack of Cigarettes | Unknown | Unknown | Karl Kreutzfeld |
Pen | The ballpoint tip instantly microwaves any subject upon contact. This results in severe trauma and often death in living subjects. This microwave burst can also be used to short circuit electronics. | Unknown | Weasel, then Joe Miller, then Jennifer |
Pencil | Creates a 1961 US penny when the tip is tapped against a solid surface. | Unknown | Unknown |
Polaroid Picture | When looked at, it allows the user to see the Lost Room as it was before the incident. The user must be at the Sunrise Hotel within the boundaries of the 10th room, in real space, to view the past in three dimensions. | Unknown | Joe Miller, Dr. Marten Ruber takes the picture of The Room before Joe pushes him out |
Prime Object | Speculated to be the center of all objects; searching for it has been said to cause insanity. | Unknown | Unknown |
Radio | Supposedly makes the user three inches taller if tuned to the right station. | Unknown | Jennifer |

Suitcase | Unknown | Unknown | The Order |
Toothbrush | Unknown | Unknown | Karl Kreutzfeld |
Umbrella | Causes anyone who looks upon the user to recognize them as someone familiar. | Unknown | Unknown; Wally believes a man in Seattle possesses it. |
Watchbox | Dampens entropy for a limited radius. "Prevents things from decaying" in layman's terms. | When combined with the "right combination" of Objects, at least one of which is The Key, it can apparently open a "tear in reality" which only closes after consuming the one who opened it. | Joe Miller |
Wrist Watch | Hard-boils an egg placed within the band. The hands are frozen at 1:20. | When combined with Knife, grants telepathy. | Karl Kreutzfeld |
