Object writing
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Object Writing is an exercise in which you start writing about one object and lead to other objects and places using all senses (touch, sound, sight, smell, taste, movement) to display imagery. Lyricist and Berklee College of Music professor, Pat Pattison popularized this method. It is a writing technique that helps generate descriptive ideas based around a particular concept. The technique is to take a limited period of time (for example 5 minutes) and write about this one word while using other terms an forcing new conjunctions of concepts. By drawing on the senses, this technique focusses the writer on the task of conjouring specific detail and invoking a sense-driven emotional response in the reader.
