ObjectBar
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
ObjectBar is a piece of software created for Windows 98/Me/2000/XP by Stardock. It can be used to add bars and panes to the Windows graphical user interface, allowing both the creation of original designs and the emulation of other operating systems. It is available separately or as part of an Object Desktop subscription.
ObjectBar has been popular with users who wish to gain the Windows XP user interface on older versions of Windows, as it provides the same taskbar grouping and system tray filtering as the XP shell. It also has the ability to import taskbar and start panel portions of WindowBlinds skins, normally only available on XP. The combination of ObjectBar and WindowBlinds is usually sufficient to convince a casual observer that a computer is running Windows XP. However, it has become less popular as users move to XP and switch to WindowBlinds alone for their taskbar skinning.
ObjectBar 2 is in beta on Object Desktop as of July 2005. Features slated for the new version include the ability to include DesktopX widgets on bars and a streamlined configuration interface, as well as integration of the previous functionality of Stardock's ControlCenter.
