Oakwood Adventist Academy

Oakwood Adventist Academy is a Seventh-day Adventist co-educational K-12 school located on the campus of Oakwood College in Huntsville, Alabama. The recently appointed K-12 principal is Mrs. Olivia Beverly (announced July 2006). Oakwood Adventist Academy was founded in 1896, and it is the oldest historically black Seventh-day Adventist academy in the world. The academy served as a boarding school and preparatory school operated by Oakwood College for the majority of its existence until 1974 when it became a day school run by a local constituency of Seventh-day Adventist churches.

Oakwood Adventist Academy still serves as the College Preparatory Division and Laboratory School for the Department of Education of Oakwood College, and it is a major feeder school for Oakwood College.

Oakwood Adventist Academy states that it's mission is to "provide a spiritual, academic, social, and physical environment that Develops, Nurtures, and Affirms (DNA) students for an eternity of service to God and a lifetime of service to humanity."[1]

The school is accredited by the National Council for Private Schools and the Education Department of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.
