Oaksterdam

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Oaksterdam is a neighborhood in downtown Oakland, California where medicinal marijuana is readily, and legally, available for purchase in a variety of different cafes or clubs. According to a state law passed by the voters of California, Proposition 215, marijuana used for medical purposes is legal to buy. Cafes and other places of purchase usually require a doctor's note in order to obtain the otherwise illegal drug.

The name Oaksterdam is a combination of Oakland and Amsterdam, the Dutch city that is famously tolerant towards drug use.
