Nymphoides is a genus of aquatic flowering plants in the family Menyanthaceae. The genus name is derived from its resemblance to the water lily Nymphaea. Nymphoides are submersed aquatic plants with floating leaves. The inflorescence is either an umbel or lax raceme, and is associated with one or more of the floating leaves. Flowers are five-parted, either yellow or white, and the petals may be adorned with wings, fringes, keels or hairs.
Species of Nymphoides are sold as aquarium plants, including the Banana plant, N. aquatica and the Water snowflake, N. indica. Species native to America are N. cordata in the Northeast and N. aquatica in the southeast. Nymphoides peltata is native to Europe, but can be found in America as an invasive aquatic weed.
Numerous species of Nymphoides can be found in Australia, and others exist in Southeast Asia, Africa and South America.
