Number the Brave is the eleventh album by legendary rock band Wishbone Ash. It is the first album in the band's history without founding bassist/vocalist Martin Turner. Turner was replaced by John Wetton, formerly of King Crimson.
In a strange turn of events, Wetton, one of the most prolific songwriters of the 1970s, was not permitted to contribute to most of the album's material. Wetton apparently offered to perform several songs with the band but was denied. These songs would later sell in the millions as Wetton would quit Wishbone Ash in disgust and form the hit supergroup Asia.
Also featured on Number the Brave is vocalist Claire Hamill, who would permanently join Wishbone Ash on the 1981 tour.
