Nuge is taking a short wikibreak and will be back on Wikipedia sometime in September, or whenever the heatwave ends. (It's too hot to be inside right now.)

[edit] Welcome

Hello, Nuge, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the Wikipedia Boot Camp, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and vote pages using three tildes, like this: ~~~. Four tildes (~~~~) produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Anilocra - (hi?) 22:00, 30 May 2005 (UTC)

Thanks! I realise that's a template, but cheers - that was very useful. - Nuge 19:30, 31 May 2005 (UTC)
No problem. Glad they were useful. It's a bit tricky some times when you paste that official welcome stuff up explaining how to make "better" edits, and people assume that you're saying therefore that their edits have been "bad" and need to be improved, and get all narky with you. :) You just can't win. Anyway, good work, I hope you enjoy the place, and if there's anything I can do... Anilocra - (hi!) 09:00, 1 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] AH's death

Thanks for putting in the Time magazine cover image! I think it's a very helpful choice. Wyss 18:34, 11 September 2005 (UTC)

No probs, I'm glad you approve. It's interesting how it makes such a difference, the article looks great now! Nuge 23:32, 11 September 2005 (UTC)

You voted for the winning nomination on Cinema Collaboration of the week, Billy Wilder.
Please help improve it to match the quality of an ideal Wikipedia film article.

[edit] reverting the art page

Thankyou for referring me to the Style Manual -- I read it -- but I don't know what issues in my entry concerned you. I also don't know what details I deleted that you thought were necessary. Could you explain ? Thanks, Mountshang 17:20, 19 January 2006 (UTC)

I'd be glad to explain. Basically your edit (see the differences) changed the article (or at the its introduction) into something non-encycolpedic. I am glad to see that you've read the Manual of Style; I should perhaps have also mentioned the Guide to layout. Here's a couple of snippets:
  • If possible, make the title the subject of the first sentence of the article.
  • The first time the title is mentioned in the article, put it in bold.
  • Normally, the first paragraph clearly explains the subject so that the reader is prepared for the greater level of detail to follow. If further introductory material is needed before the first section, this can be covered in subsequent paragraphs.
While there may not have been anything wrong with your contribution content-wise, you removed important and vital introductory information that should really have been left there. As this is Wikipedia, you're welcome to make any changes you feel necessary to said introduction, but you should make sure that it follows Wikipedia policy.
Bear in mind that your contribution, content wise, seemed ok to me (watch out for NPOV though). Please feel free to re-add your contribution, albeit working within the paramaters of the conventional Wikipedia style and layout.
Thanks! Nuge 03:39, 20 January 2006 (UTC)
Ok - I see the error of my ways --- but before I submit an edited version, I'd like to know what was the important and vital introductory information that should really have been left there. Mountshang 00:49, 23 January 2006 (UTC)
The main thing I objected to was this opening paragraph, which you removed altogether:
Art (or the creative arts) commonly refers to the act and process of making material works (or artworks) which, from concept to creation, hold a fidelity to the creative impulse —ie. 'art' is work distinct from creative work that is driven by necessity (ie. vocation), by biological drive (i.e. procreation), or (in art-purist contexts) by any undisciplined pursuit of recreation.
This needs to be left in this kind of format. All Wikipedia articles follow this convention. Understand now? Nuge 00:59, 23 January 2006 (UTC)
Is the following version in the correct format ?
Art is a superior way to accomplish things through the application of a body of knowledge and a set of skills. Examples include: martial arts, medical arts, culinary arts, arts of management, art of love, art of Classical realist painting, art of Chinese brush painting, etc.
Over the past 200 years in western European urban culture, art has also been an activity of cultural expression or self expression that is independent of any specific purpose, set of skills, or body of knowledge. Mountshang 14:13, 24 January 2006 (UTC)
I would say no, simply because I feel the original version is a better definition of art and summarises it more definitively. However, I can see no problem with format or layout. I would suggest now that you discuss these changes on the Art talk page, which is probably a more appropriate place to continue with this. Hope this helps - Nuge 15:12, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Director link repairs

Didn't mean to steal your thunder. I've been chipping away at this for a few days and changed a last few this morning. When I noticed that it was still on the list, I moved it. You're welcome to change the name on the page to your own. Doesn't matter to me at all. SteinbDJ 14:45, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

I went ahead and added your name next to mine in the interest of equity and fairness. SteinbDJ 15:32, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Marijuana Wiki

Hi there,

I see that you are a pro-Cannabis Wikipedian so I hope this will be of some interest to you.

I've started a Marijuana wiki (aka The Sticky Wiki) which I think you might be interested in. I'm hoping you can help me get started with this project. Whereas lots of articles about weed get speedy-deleted on Wikipedia, they would be totally cool over at MarijuanaWiki. But really I want the site to be more of a marijuana community than merely an encyclopedia.

To give you an example, I want to have city guides about where to score, find pot-friendly cafes, marijuana events, and what represents a good price in that city. Etc. (You can check out the featured article: "Toronto" to see what I mean). I also want to have grow diaries and marijuana blogs. All in all, basically more communal than encyclopedic.

I am in need of admins/moderators, and people experienced with MediaWiki to help build policy, categories, and templates, etc. If you'd be interested in helping me with this project, the URL is MarijuanaWiki

Thanks for your time and consideration. Hope to see you there!

-- nsandwich 00:19, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the help! Can you import over a couple marijuana-related userboxes? I want one on my userpage but I don't know how to make them ;) -- nsandwich 01:12, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Sockpuppets

Thank you for your help with my question on sockpuppets at the Help Desk. I came across some new evidence today, which answered the POV-pushing and the 4th stand alone sockpuppet. I shall leave the user's identity private since that is the least they deserve. Thank you again, Highway Rainbow Sneakers 12:46, 28 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] How to have a table inline

I want to insert a 2x1 table inside a line to list a date, in two calendars (say Gregorian and Coptic), instead of writing date-1 then date2. What do I need to declare to avoid line breaks before and after the table?
I want to put such code in a template that takes the two dates as parameters.
Too bad that Math:Fract does not accept parameters.

Thanks for your pointers to documentation, but there is no help that I can see for inserting a table inline. Do you see a solution for that? Thanks again. --Shafei 19:40, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] University of Kent

Nuge. If you wish to raise an RFC for the user on the University of Kent page then I'll lend you my assistance and backing as another insulted party. Ben W Bell talk 13:16, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

Not a problem. I'm around in Canterbury today if you want to get together for a drink and a discuss on this. I was actually on campus this morning and can easily come up again. Oh and thanks for the support on the Adminship. Ben W Bell talk 08:48, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
I can come up anytime, that isn't an issue, though before 3:30 would be best for me. Ben W Bell talk 10:42, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
2pm will be fine. I'm wearing kahki combats and a lime green polo shirt. My name is, in case you hadn't figured it out, Ben Bell. Ben W Bell talk 11:07, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thank You

Thank you for supporting my Request for Adminship! I appreciate it and will do my best to maintain the faith you have shown in me! – Ben W Bell talk 07:20, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

...fortunately the users in question have indeed been blocked

Well, when the attacks become that nasty, the best move is not to bother arguing the toss, but just follow the procedure on the Wikipedia:Personal attack intervention noticeboard. Tearlach 10:39, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
