Nugegoda

Nugegoda is one of the most densely populated suburbs of Colombo. It is one of the main commercial areas of Kotte, the Administrative capital of Sri Lanka. Famous for its many tutories and clothing stores, it becomes a traffic nightmare during rush hours.
Nugegoda is located near the High Level Road and its centre is Nugegoda junction, which is the intersection of the High Level Road (which runs from Colombo eastwards past Nugegoda towards Maharagama and beyond) with Kohuwala Road, which connects Nugegoda with Dehiwala on the Galle Road, and Stanley Thillakaratne Mawatha.
Nugegoda is a collection of densely packed shops and affluent residential areas.
Nugegoda was a minor village a few decades ago but has seen a high degree of growth and development recently. There has been a huge increase in buildings and a great reduction in trees and green areas. Agricultural lands (still present in the early 1990's) have largely been used for building and development.
Traffic congestion is high, with the High Level Road being almost at standstill during the rush hour.
Nugegoda similar to other cities in Sri Lanka, has not seen a planned development and hence has no public parks or squares.
