Nude modeling

Nude modeling is the act of posing undraped or in some cases, partially covered. A person who nude models is referred to as a model. Nude modeling can be done in a variety of circumstances for a variety of reasons. Most formally, nude models are employed by university art departments for life drawing classes. Nude models also find work with informal art workshops organized outside the academy. Additionally, nude models are sometimes paid to model as part of a performance or work of art; a fine example is the work of Vanessa Beecroft. Nude modeling can also occur in a private setting as demonstrated in the films As Good as it Gets and Titanic. Finally, a person can be their own model, while solo, with or without mirrors.

The human body has been a subject of interest for as long as history itself. This is exemplified by the pre-historic Venus figurines as well as reoccurrence of the human form hence. Humans may be the only creatures on earth who have made creations reflective of themselves. Evidence of the use of models to create art can be found throughout the history of art.
