[edit] 'Bout Me
Sup, I am an editor from New York City. A faithful Unilateralist and Deletionist and soon to be Communist as well as recently inducted jingoist. I have been editing Wikipedia for a short time but have been following articles for some time before. A friend introduced me to the wonders of the wikiverse, though she never got into editing herself, she reccomended I did because I am so "opinionated." That is a common attribute associated with me. I am mainly into articles on politics, conspiracy theories and history. I work as a computer engineer for a large corporation, however I feel there are plenty of experts already covering the myriad of issues in that field. Most of my editing is focused at removing POV based statements from articles and fact checking. Unfortunatly due to the heated topics I have found myself editing I have been called many offensive names and have had many accusations leveled against me. However through those incidents I have met some genuine editors who want to better the Wiki community and have decided to stay and hopefully continue to better this wonderful resource.
Other areas of interest, but sadly no expertise include: Architecture, Religion, Minimalism, Volkswagen GTI Mark V, Music & Culture
[edit] Architecture
My interest in architecture arrives more from shapes then anything else. Its unique building ideas that stand out, not the mathematical aspect per se. Originally peaked by the rumored "City in the Sky" project being undertaken by Shanghai, a special I had seen on the Discovery Channel, it amazed me by what man was able to accomplish in terms of originality. Living in New York City you can witness how thousands of buildings can all manage to appear quite the same. Seeing a building such as 17 State Street, in Manhattan, stand amongst an array of antiquated designs is just a sight of amazement. I hope one day to be able to go to London as I have found images of 30 St Mary Axe that just astonish me.
What is it that drives these designers to want to create something different from their predecessors. To create a look that is appealing to the eyes and yet still works in terms of what the people who own the property want. I have been running around on the Foster and Partners website and just seeing some of the amazing designs they have planned such as New Holland Island or The Troika in Kuala Lumpur. Specifically, 30 St Mary Axe is an amazing design with the outer glass panes creating a spiral design in two different shades, creating an almost "jeweled egg" look, like a Fabergé egg but with a minimalist touch.
Other amazing structures:
[edit] Religion
The quest to know who we are and where we come from. For centuries people have been trying to find themselves in religion and find answers to questions of how and why. I have been interested in religion for some years, a culmination of wanting to understand myself and my philosophies, and wanting to understand other peoples draw to religion. I am not for or against any religion and through looking at religion throughout history have come to find myself believing more in the theory of evolution and my friend, Charles Darwin. My reasoning for my own personal switch from Roman Catholic to Nontheism, a term I hate, is from looking at the histories of my past religion and that of others. Events in time such as the First Council of Nicaea, The Crusades and the teachings of Martin Luther have shown a willingness to oppose the very foundation of the religion themselves, or to alter the very foundation of the religion they claim to serve. How can you believe a supreme being passed down these words, set these people out to document these events, then bargain which of the stories, books, events get told?
My personal beliefs stem more from the idea that organized religion does not work. When people are given control over the ideas and views of the many, they will abuse them or simply place those views in line with their own. In time too much blood in the form of Crusades and Jihads have been allowed by the very people who are to teach compassion and love. Cities are laid to waste and destroyed, cities that are considered holy by all who are fighting in it. Even today I still search and ask questions as to what I do believe and it changes, as I believe a person cannot be a religion without agreeing with everything it stands for, nor should they settle on one without ever experiencing others.
Albert Einstein:
"True religion is real living; living with all one's soul, with all one's goodness and righteousness."
[edit] Minimalism
While I am not the type to visit a museum exhibit on minimalism, I am a fan of the simple. I think in efforts to make things unique, or amazing, people have abandoned looking at what is needed, and just enjoying that. At times, just a simple stroke or blot can say as much as a million lines and complex shapes. I have been told that my sense of style is inline with that of a minimalist, keeping things very simple, or as some would call it, "boring." Perhaps its more of a clean design that is appealing to me, leading back to my interest in certain pieces of architecture. Creating clean lines and walls, the glass designs while simple reflect the designs of the buildings around them, while staying simple in their own respect. Portraying the most you can with the least amount of work. An example is the Rocawear logo on the left side, a simple design in a single color, yet shows the "R" and "W" of Rocawear blending.
Other good examples would be the Akademiks design. While incorporating other colors the design is still kept relatively simple, same can be seen with the Adidas logo.
[edit] Volkswagen GTI Mark V
The beautiful Volkswagen GTI Mark V. This has managed to top my list of amazing cars visually. I have been a fan of Volkswagen cars since around the time of Fast N The Furious debuted and featured a magnificent VW Golf MK V. From there I fell in love with the designs of the later designs of the Jetta which to me highlite a pinnacle of simplistic and sleak design. The Jetta has become a regularly tricked out car in my neighborhood where aftermarket parts are routinely turning these cars into street racing power houses. My interest in the car itself revolves solely around its design instead of its aftermarket abilities, connecting back to the section above on minimalism, the car is very simple yet grabs the attention by its minor details such as front fender and design of the headlights. The Wolkswagen GTI Mark V is the performance version and falls under the classification as a VW Golf.
Features:
- 2.0 litre turbocharged inline 4-cylinder engine.
- FSI (Fuel Stratified Injection) direct-injection technology.
- 6-speed manual, or a 6-speed automatic DSG.
- Just amazing to look at.
[edit] Music & Culture
I am a big fan of hiphop music and culture, from clothing to music to art. Just as the music and styles have evolved over time, so have my tastes. I started out listening to old school rap music, Das EFX and Lords of the Underground and later began changing with the times to listening to Jay-Z, Tupac Shakur, Notorious BIG etc. Over time however I feel my interest in rap/hiphop music has matured to where I mainly listen to Kanye West and other GOOD Music artists like Common and GLC. I started focusing on more political orientated music through a great underground artist named Immortal Technique and a song titled "Peruvian Cocaine." The track features 6 artists including Immortal Technique himself, each artists raps in the persona of a person that fills the role of the drug trade from Peru to the United States. I found the style and layout of this track to be simply amazing and went on a spree of looking for other tracks by him.
From there my interests were brought to Kanye West after hearing the non-radio version of the track "Diamonds from Sierra Leone" feat. Jay-Z. The version played on the radio excludes an important portion of the song that states what he is talking about, the diamond trade that leads to helpless children having their arms cut off and keeps militias opressing the people at these mines. The duality of the song is also impressive as the symbol for Rocafella Records is to create a diamond shape with your hands by joining your index fingers together and thumbs. The influence of Kanye West was futher felt after he declared during a fund raising for Hurricane Katrina victims, "George Bush doesn't care about black people". The voice of the hiphop/rap community has long been heard by only the people being oppressed and with a larger audience comes a larger responcibility to speak to the world about the issues in their communities. I commend people like Kanye West, Common, Immortal Technique etc. who stand true to themselves and stand for the communities they came from.
From music to art, the style of Graffitti has evolved and also been persecuted. Some artists have gone on to create amazing murals and some people have used the style to deface public property. As an art form however the style has grown and matured as pictures are more routinely added from previously just inscribing names. Style forms have even evolved such as the creation of "wild style" where letters are represented by images depicting them or the words flow directly into one another and into the images in the foreground and background. While the art of "graf" has been the target of many law enforcement efforts to supress it, legal competitions have arose giving artists new ways to be recognized and rewarded for their skill and style. The art form of Graffitti represents to me the talent of hiphop that will always be looking down upon, rarely recognized for what it is in itself, instead persecuted for what its associated with.
