why dont they agree to get rid of all weapons of mass destruction? why do white nations have and the rest not allowed to have why is it an issue if iran wants and nobody does anything about Israel Why do we even have nuclear weapons? They're just going to lead to global destruction....one nation will launch a warhead, then another will launch in self defense, then other nations will see all of it and start launching warheads left and right; soon the worl will be a nuclear wasteland because we will have destryed ourselves with the overwhelming power of nuclear weapons.

It's a great idea. Lots of people are working on it. Actually, getting rid of armed forces and WMDs generally is a great idea. On the other hand, armed neutrality has worked for Switzerland, and unarmed neutrality has not worked for Lebanon. Andrewa 15:04, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Accuracy of the map

Australia has never had a nuclear weapons program, despite claims by filmmaker Peter Butt and a few others. There's no evidence for a program, just some letters in now-released Government archives that show that people proposed one from time to time (which was never a secret). No work was ever done on it, no money was spent, no staff were employed, nothing was developed. Andrewa 15:04, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

You could discuss this issue in Talk:List of countries with nuclear weapons. CG 18:20, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for your reply. I had already, but there's some difficulty as it is a featured list. See Talk:List of countries with nuclear weapons#Australia?, and your input there would be very welcome.
The list I see has now been updated to provide a link supporting the claim about Australia. The link is broken, but I will fixed it (it actually points to the reference about Kazakstan). I'll put some comments about this link in the talk page. Andrewa 19:27, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

I have a question regarding the yellow areas of the map. The caption reads Isreal and Iran for yellow, yet the map shows several other areas in the same region highlighted in yellow. Can someone explain the discrepency, or otherwise shed light on what the accurate (or a more accurate) list of yellow colored nations should be? Thanks. Thoreaulylazy 18:25, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

Shouldn't North Korea be moved to Orange?

The reference of the map is the List of countries with nuclear weapons. Check it and place your objection there. CG 13:45, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Canada

Canada had a research program of sorts just post WW2.Geni 18:06, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Countries falling under more than 1 category need to be shown/striped

Some states that are labeled "had nuclear programs in the past" also qualify for the "could become nuclear powers quickly if a decision was made to do so."

The example that sticks out in my mind the most is South Korea...
