Nowodworski Foundation

The Nowodworski Foundation is a not for profit educational organization founded in 1999 by a group of Alumni and Friends of The Historic Nowodworski High School in Cracow, Poland. The purpose of the Foundation is to develop closer cultural ties between Americans and Poles with special programs for high school students, and implementation of Renaissance ideals in education and everyday life.

Under the name sake of Bartłomiej Nowodworski (also know as Nowodworek) it is the oldest public high school in Poland. The school was opened in 1588, whose aim was to prepaire students for further academic studies at the university level.

Famous Alumni include: Jan III Sobieski, Stanisław Trembecki, Jan Śniadecki i Jędrzej Śniadecki, Wojciech Bogusławski, Józef Bem, Józef Kenig, Władysław Ludwik Anczyc, Jan Matejko, Józef Mehoffer, Stanisław Wyspiański, Michał Bałucki, Kazimierz Przerwa-Tetmajer, Lucjan Rydel, Tadeusz Boy-Żeleński, Ignacy Daszyński, Leon Schiller, Kazimierz Nitsch, Juliusz Osterwa, Gustaw Holoubek, Walery Goetel, Sławomir Mrożek, Roman Młodkowski.


Through out the schools history it was supported and helped by many of its alumni, today the tradition continues with such groups as The Nowodworski Foundation who began student exchanges between various American high schools and the Nowodworski High School. The foundation is also working to renovate and expand the over 400 year old schools crumbleing facilities and integrate it with the cities cultural circle.
