• 1865 - Henry Wirz, the superintendent of the Andersonville Prison, was hanged, becoming the only American Civil War soldier executed for war crimes.
• 1871 - "Dr. Livingstone, I presume?" – Henry Morton Stanley located missing missionary and explorer, David Livingstone (pictured) in Ujiji, near Lake Tanganyika in present-day Tanzania.
• 1969 - Sesame Street debuted on the National Educational Television network in the United States.
• 1995 - Playwright and environmental activist Ken Saro-Wiwa and eight others from the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People were executed by the Nigerian military government.

If it falls on the nearest weekday (i.e. is a moveable event), it perhaps doesn't belong on a page about a specific month/day-combo at all? Rhialto 02:10, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

Whether the US gives a weekday Bank Holiday for people when it falls on a weekend is immaterial:　it's still celebrated on the 11th. --CalendarWatcher 13:14, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
